Frequently asked questions

About the directory, the TPB register data (checked 20 Oct 2026) and claiming a listing.

Where does Registered Australia get its data?

From the Tax Practitioners Board public register file on data.gov.au (CC BY 4.0). The file we use is dated 19 Oct 2026 and was checked 20 Oct 2026.

Who is listed?

Tax agents and BAS agents with the status 'Registered' or 'Registered - Renewal application lodged' and a business address in an Australian state or territory.

Why can't I find an agent?

Their registration may not be current, or the register may not publish a business address for them. The Check a tax agent tool searches every record in the register file, including registrations that are not current.

How do I verify an agent's registration?

Search the official TPB public register at tpb.gov.au/public-register. It is updated continuously and is the final word.

Is Registered Australia part of the TPB or the ATO?

No. It is an independent directory, not affiliated with the Tax Practitioners Board or the Australian Taxation Office.

Do you recommend agents?

No. Listings are informational. Order is Featured (paid and always labelled), then claimed listings, then everyone else A to Z.

How do agents claim a listing?

Registered agents or authorised practice staff can claim free from the For agents page. Verification is by a code sent to an email on the practice's own website domain, or by uploading a document; every claim is reviewed.

What happens to a quote request?

We store it for up to 12 months and share it only with up to 3 registered practices in your state that have claimed their listing and opted in.

Can I claim my tax agent's fee?

The ATO lets you claim the cost of lodging through a registered tax agent as a cost of managing your tax affairs. See our guide for details and sources.
